Well, friends—
The day has come! A Rose by Any Other Name is making her way out into the world, and I’m feeling very emotional about letting her go. One moment I’m so excited I want to scream into a pillow, and the next I feel strangely sad, as if in giving her to you I am losing her myself. Rose is a prickly, fierce woman—but she has a softness at her core, and I love how difficult and wild she is. She reminds me of my younger self.

If you preordered, you should be receiving your copy very soon. It’s also not too late to order from Charis Books and get a signed copy with the official bookmark and a golden astrological seal! But my launch event is tomorrow, Wednesday July 17 at 7pm, so you’ll need to order soon to make sure I sign your copy at the event. If you prefer to order from another bookstore, you can sign up to have me mail you the preorder incentives and a signed bookplate here. The deadline for that is Saturday, July 21.
And about that event! If you’re in Atlanta, I’ll be in conversation with Sara Cleto of the Carterhaugh School of Folklore and the Fantastic at Georgia Center for the Book! There will be a Q&A at the end of the event followed by a booksigning!

Finally, if you’re on Instagram, I’ll be talking about History, Romance, and Dark Magic on Instagram Live on July 18 at 7pm EDT with the wonderful Constance Sayers! I would love for you to join us—the virtual event will be super casual and fun and we’ll be taking your questions!
I’m also excited that the novel is the SFF/Horror/Romance Editor’s Pick for the week over at Publishers Weekly, a huge honor and wonderful surprise in the crowded book market. But second novels are less publicized than debuts, so I’ve been asked by friends and family how they can help during launch week. I’ll share that here in case any of you want to help too. This applies to any of your favorite authors’ books, by the way:
- Request the book at your local library.
- Tell your friends about the book—share a launch graphic, this newsletter, or an image of you with the book on social media or in email.
- Share, like, or comment on my posts on Facebook, Instagram, X, or Threads.
And of course, once you do read the book, please don’t forget to rate or post a review on Amazon or Goodreads, where the algorithm will help the book find the readers who will enjoy it most!
Let me know what you think!
Warmly,
Mary McMyne
